Navigating labor shortages amid today’s housing crisis demands innovation from manufacturers, distributors, and contractors. Responding to updated building codes in the southern U.S. and a growing need for labor solutions, Typar developed Clear Flashing Tape. As the first of its kind, this acrylic tape revolutionizes window installation by tackling key issues like water intrusion, inspection delays and workforce challenges.
Proper window installation often delays progress, as water intrusion remains the leading cause of costly callbacks. This challenge is magnified in multi-family projects where high window volumes can increase timelines. Inspectors require visibility of nail flanges, caulking and fasteners. Traditional opaque flashing obscures these areas, creating bottlenecks and increasing the risk of delays.
Typar’s acrylic flashing tape keeps window nailing fins fully visible. Inspectors are able to confirm proper installation techniques without disrupting workflows. By improving inspection efficiency, builders can finish projects faster, meet building code requirements and eliminate costly return trips to the jobsite.
Typar’s Clear Flashing Tape features a premium advanced acrylic adhesive for a strong, waterproof bond in temperatures ranging from 20°F to 200°F. The tape is self-sealing, UV-resistant for up to nine months and performs reliably in harsh conditions.
This innovative flashing complies with AAMA 711-22, the industry standard for protecting structures from moisture, water, and air intrusion. With a thickness of 12 mils (including the release liner), it combines durability and flexibility for seamless application.

Using Typar's acrylic flashing tape is simple and efficient:
- Prepare the Surface: Make diagonal cuts in the weather-resistant barrier (WRB). Optionally, install a sill pan or create one using Typar Flexible Flashing.
- Apply Sealant: Place a continuous bead of sealant on the back of the window or the wall.
- Install Side Flashing: Cut the tape to extend 1 inch above the head flange and below the sill flange. Peel off the release liner and press the tape firmly with your hand or a J-roller.
- Install Head Flashing: Cut a piece to extend 1 inch beyond the jamb flashing on both sides. Remove the release liner, apply, and press firmly.
- Secure the WRB: Release the upper flap of the WRB and tape the 45-degree cuts using clear flashing. Do not tape the WRB along the top of the window flange.
